Medmenham, nr Marlow, Bucks. Monday 19 March 2012
We took a hardly used road which leads up the escarpment
The view back towards Mill End
We could have kept to the road to bring us here, but took a detour on a footpath
A farm some way from the path with a formal garden
a rusty tank
Over the top of the hill was another valley
A private road with cottages on both sides with painted terracotta tympana of local Medmenham ware
above the doors depicting the labours of the 12 months
Grade II listed, Circa 1900, probably by Romaine Walker (1854–1940) for Mr. Robert Hudson of Danesfield
who also owned Medmenham Abbey which Walker restored for him in 1898, adding a new wing.
Lodge Farm on an imposing hill position above Medmenham
And also above the recycling area!
