The CAIWU banner states 'Defending Workers Since 2016 - Freedom -
Equality - Solidarity'
Crowds walked past the protest on the pavement in front of Oxford
St on one of the busiest shopping days of the year
Vuvuzelas can make a lot of noise
The workers were on strike today for the London Living Wage - the
real amount you need to live on in London
Currently they are paid the minimum wage (What a deceiving government
calls the Living Wage but isn't enough to live on)
Alberto Durango has been one of the leaders in the fight to get a
lviing wage for low paid workers
As well as a living wage, workers also want to be treated with dignity
& respect - as a passing bus puts it
'Recognising me as someone not something'
Alberto spoke occasionally to tell shoppers why the cleaners at Debenhams
were on strike
and in Spanish to the cleaners (and some tourists)
Several people sopped for a while to dance when the cleaners played
Latin-American music
Others stopped to talk and show their support
I left the cleaners still protesting - they had begun their picket early
in the morning
