The pall-bearers approach Buckingham Palace with the Extinction Rebellion
(XR) coffin 'OUR FUTURE'
and halt in front of the gates
The lift the coffin up
and put it down on the ground and start shouting for climate action
There is a space in front of the banner 'Rebel For Life' so people
can photograph it in front of Buckingham Palace
so I do.
XR's Gail Bradbrook reads out a letter calling on the Queen to get
her government to take the urgent action needed to save her country - and
the world
though some in the crowd think the only appropriate thing to bring
to Buckingham Palace would be a guillotine...
And Clare again leads the crowd in reading the Declaration of Rebellion
Some in the crowd have copies, but others simply repeat it phrase
by phrase after Clare
'Remember what happened to us?' a woman holds a poster with some models
of extinct species
and there is more singing
'We Need Renewables Not More Fossil Fuels'
and a silence is announced to remember those already killed by global warming,
and the species that have become
extinct, and for those who have brought flowers, wreaths and other objects
to lay them on the coffin in front of the palace gates
