Cleator Moor

Cleator Moor, Cumbria. Sun 2 Sep 2018

Cleator Moor is built along a single long street, with mainly short side streets

At its centre is the Market Square with municipal public buildings including the library and town hall

and around and close to it some of the grander shops

 Cross North St

 Phoenix Youth Project, Birks Rd

High St. Many buildings are for sale

A short street off the main street

Phoenix bridge over the former railway line - now a path

One of the longer side streets by St John's Church, Crossfield Rd

 Front gate of the church

The Church of St John Evangelist is next to the current Co-Op supermarket. As I walked through the churchyard a man ran across from
the Co-op clutching 3 bottles of spirits, with another man chasing him and shouting 20 yards behind. The thief carefully put down one
bottle on the path and ran on. His pursuer stopped to pick it up and the thief escaped. The church needs roof repairs.

I walked back towards the town centre

and took a few pictures along the side streets of workers housing

The Commercial Hotel was built as ;The Beehive' in the 1870s. This large commercial property was up for auction
in January 2018 with a guide price of £118,000.
