City Highwalk

London, Wed 18 April 2018

I sat by Shakespeare to eat my lunch

and then took a walk on the highwalk. This sculpture has moved since I photographed it in the 1990s

and the yard at the back of the Guildhall has had a little of a facelift

But one of my favourite London buildings is still there

From one of the dead ends in the system which was abandoned

I took a picture here when I first got a panoramic camera - and it was used by the Museum of London on their

annual report. The Widelux was Japanese, expensive and clockwork. It gave a picture on 35mm film that was

slightly less wide and roughly half the vertical coverage of these images. It had two arrows on the top to show

the edges of its view and was considerably more accurate than the viewfinder. I had to add a spirit level to the

accessory shoe and normally use it on a monpod to get upright verticals. Life is much easier with digital!

London Wall - and there are more dead ends around here

I think this is where a bridge once crossed London Wall - and none of those blocks was on the other side

There is now a new bridge some way west

 From another dead end.

The new bridge ended up with a couple of inches less clearance than the design as they had not taken its weight into account

There is a much clearer view of the ruins of St Alphage London Wall from the bridge

also known as St Alphege Cripplegate and now St Alphege Gardens
