The Landlords' Game

Mayfair, Belgravia & Brompton, London. Sat 14 Apr 2018

'We've Got To Get Rid of the RIch'

 'End Empty Homes'

'Housing is a RIght, NOT a privilege' - No Evictions'

'Grouse House' Odey Asset managemnet owner Crispin Odey formed 'You Forgot the Birds' to oppose RSPB who want to stop the killing of birds

 - a lobby for Grouse Moors. Many were moved off from their land for Grouse moors, and many protected species are killed by gamekeepers.

British Virgin Islands is an offshore tax haven where 23,000 properties in England and Wales are registered as a tax scam

Richard who researched tax havens for Private Eye

Cat from RCG reminds us that the CIty of London is a huge tax haven - and more

Guy throws his money (Monopoly) in the air. Foxtons sells and rents some of the most expensive property in London

and both the Tory government and the Labour local authroities have relied on estate agents to direct their housing strategies

The Grosvenor House Hotel is the venue for the notorious annual Property Developers Awards

A room in the 'Royal Suite' costs £5,000 per night.

Hyde Park, a Royal Park has been open to the public since 1637, but there have been many fights over other parks

and many have only been saved by the growth of groups of 'Friends'

A plea for more free public toilets. Many were closed in the 1980s because of a 'gay scare' and others now charge for use

 Another song

Waiting for everyone to cross over Knightsbridge

Guy stands on a stump at the end of the most expensive street in London, Grosvenor Crescent. THe statue of the first Marquess of Westminster has a
plaque on its side stating the family came here with William the Conqueror. He divided out the conquered land and many great estates date from then.

Cadogan Square, perhaps the most imposing of London squares. Much of the money of the Sloane/Cadogan

family (Elizabeth Sloane, the daughter of Sir Hans Sloane, who bought the Manor of Chelsea in 1712 married Charles Cadogan)

came from African slave labour in Jamaica.

Most of the properties in Cadogan Square are now divided into flats, which cost several millions each.

Many are unoccupied most of the year

The few remaining complete houses in the square would cost over £25m each.
