Lambeth Council opens fake Carnegie library
Carnegie Library, Herne Hill, London. Thu 15 Feb 2018
Library campaigners look at the re-opened library. They know it is
only a temporary measure as this room
is to become a hall for hire, with the library moved into two much
smaller rooms - and only available for
around two hours a day.
Now it seems quite spacious - though most sections didn't seem very
well stocked
and the children's section was certainly rather better than the rest.
Campaigners listen
as they are advised that a safety inspection by Unison has found major
problems, including the lack of any proper
escape route in case of fire. The fire exist was through the building
works along a corridor lined with Calor gas cylinders
Andrew Carnegie who provide funds for a library against a promise
the council would properly maintain it
campaigners leave the building with posters 'Your Days Are Numbered
Gym'
and stop for a rally on the steps
One woman says there was no security to stop people stealing books
- and to prove it she did!
'Gym Your Days Are Numbered - 77 Days To The Election'
The campaigners are jubilant about finding so many safety problems,
proviing Lambeth Council is trying
to fool people by saying they are re-opening the library
We get told more about the faults the Unison safety inspection revealed
- no proper fire exit, unacceptable toilet
facilities, with the outlet plumbed into the kitchen sink, dangerous
electric fires the only heating, no disable access...
