Belper - World Heritage Site

Derwent Valley, Derbyshire. Wed 30 Dec 2015

The bridge at left went across the road to the west half of the mill site, now a relatively modern factory

The Horshoe Weir impounded water to provide power to the West Mill, long demolished

The tall East Mill building is largely unoccupied now, with spaces to let

It is a steel frame building and was built without needing scaffolding

To the right is the lower North Mill of 1804

Water could also flow through gates to the stream under the East Mill, which was also fed from furrther upstream by the railway bridge

Water flows under the East Mill, then along by its side

A disused bridge leads to the car park

Riverside Gardens

In summer this part of the lake is used for boating

A beidge carries the Midland Main Line across the River Derwent
