King's College employ your cleaners

King's College, London. Fri 1 Dec 2017

A large crowd was almost blocking the pavement outside King's Colleg on the Strand

 '#Back In House'

 'Justice for Cleaners'

They chanted slogans and handed out a sheet explaining the campaign to get the cleaners employed under

decent conditions of employment by getting them directly employed by the college.

Servest are used by the College to employ staff who have essential roles in the college but are treated badly

with much poorer conditions of service than if they were employed by the college. The cleaners also say they

are bullied and overworked by Servest and that they are not provided with proper materials to do their jobs

safely and well. They want to do a better job and want equal rights.

 'KCL leners Back In-House!'

It was a noisy protest that couldn't be ignored

Many of the cleaners spoke at the protest

Most are Spanish speaking though most today spoke in English.

Many came here as refugees from Latin America

Some of the placards were in Spanish and King's has many overseas students too

'End Outsourcing' - it always makes its profits by employing staff under poor conditions and treating them badly
