End homophobic bullying at LSE
London
School of Economics, London. Fri 24 Feb 2017
The protest began outside the office block on the corner of Kingsway
Where LSE have offices that out-source cleaning contractor Noonan
work from.
Many of the protesters were LSE students. After the protest there
the marched onto the campus
'LSE Say No to Homophobia'
A long poster summarises the various headings under which the LSE
Cleaning company Noonan is being taken to tribunal
'Breach of Contract, Harrassment, Victimisation, Unfair dismissal
and discrimation based on race, gender, sexual orientation'
The protest blocked one of the public roads thorugh the campus, and
a van driver came to argue angrily with
the protesters - and LSE security tried to reason with him
but he continued to shout and threaten the protesters
and was gently restrained by LSE security
LSE Security (in green) try to persuade protesters - including UVW
General Secretary Petros Elia - to move off the road
Protesters also called for justice for Alba and all the LSE cleaners,
who are treated as second-class citizens
and the protest ended with music and dancing on the street
Eventually police arrived
and tried to clear the street
and the protest continued mainly on the pavement
Cleaners deserve decent pay and to be treated with dignity and respect for
the vital job that they do
