Housing Protest at 'Progess' conference

Coin St, London. Sat 9 Jul 2016

Garden Bridge protest at 'Progess' conference

Coin St, London. Sat 9 Jul 2016

These two protests took place together outside the conference venue, though the Garden Bridge protest ended earlier.

'Southwark Counci WORST for Social Cleansing' and a picture of Peter John 'Wanted for betraying the people of SOuthwark'

Some of those going to the conference seemed angry to be confronted by the protesters, though a few stopped to take an interest

People had come from all around the country for the Progess conference and many were not aware of what

is happening in London, where even people in relatively well-paid jobs such as teaching are being forced out of the area

'Something smells rotten at Lambeth Council' 'Lambeth does not listen' . People don't want the Garden Bridge

A woman comes out and shouts at the protesters, telling them they are disturbing a youth health event - but
the young people only arrive about a quarter of an hour later.

'Robin Wales OUT!' THe Mayor of Newham is responsible for keeping homes on the Carpenters Estate empty for years

People line up for a group photo before I leave, though they intend to keep up the protest for some time

'Stop Selling Council Homes'

Many councils are selling council properties to developers for luxury flats - and being allowed to get away with
not building the social housing that should have been included in the schemes as it isn't profitable

They get the big accounting companies to produce dodgy accounts - and provide various inducements for councillors and officials

Housing Associations have largely morphed into big businesses, hard to tell from purely commercial developers

and London just isn't getting the social housing and council housing its population needs
