Silverdale Holiday

Silverdale, Lancashire. Mon 24 Aug 2015

and on to the The Row and Bank Well

We walked up The Row (taking a footpath to look at another well behind the houses, Dogslack Well, which was
a hole with the remains of a pump, and was used to supply water to the houses until 1938.

In Eaves Wood (NT) formerly known as King WIlliam's Hill. But I doubt if this was his house

And this certainly wasn't. The 'Pepperpot' was erected to mark Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee

The view of Silverdale from the Pepperpot

You have to walk a little to the west for this view over Morecambe Bay

The Pepperpot was hit by lightning shortly after it was finished. They built it again with a lightning conductor

The air was clear enough for a good view of the nuclear power station at Heysham

After dinner we went down to The Cove for sunset

That tiny white speck is the moon seen with a wide-angle lens

My long shadow on the rocks

The sun soon disappeared

And the sky began to get more intense

A building on top of the cliffs is Leeds Childrens Holiday Centre, a chairty founded in 1904
