Silverdale Holiday

Arnside etc, Cumbria. Sat 22 Aug 2015

 Arnside

 From the pier

At the Albion pub, where I had a glass of 'The Bore'

'Fat Lad at the Back' of a group of cyclists going up the hill out of Arnside

From the slopes of Arnside Knott

and another train on the Kent Viaduct

and on its way to Grange-over-Sands

From the south edge of Arnside Knott

We could look down on Arnside Tower in the centre of this picture, but it was too steep to go direct

Heysham nuclear power station at left, and the sands of Morecambe Bay

Arnside Tower and a farm were around 130 metres below us and perhaps 400m away but we walked much further to reach them

making our way down through a path in the woods to the west

we crossed the road and walked along a farm track through the farm yard to

reach the tower. Built in the C15 as a 'pele tower' for defence against the Scots and border raiders (replacing an earlier tower on the site).

much of its collapsed in a storm in 1884

and it is in a dangerous state

Opposite the door to our room was a large framed tapestry
