Gove "Read-In" protest in DfE

Department for Education, Westminster. Fri 30 May 2014

Security apparently didn't notice me when I walked in to the lobby of the Department for Education

where an English lesson was taking place as a protest against Minister Michael Gove's interference with

English GCSE, making the exam boards take many well-loved 20th Century US books off the syllabus

including 'To Kill a Mocking Bird'. The protesters were mainly teachers, with a few of their children

Some of the banned books were scattered on the floor, and the 'class' was studying another together.

After a minute or so, the secuirty men noticed I was taking photographs

and started telling me I had to leave

and after a little argument I did so

taking a few more pictures as they escorted me out

I got the impression the security were not very happy at having been told to keep the press out.
