Ukrainians Protest, Celebrate and Mourn

Notting Hill, London. Sat 22 Feb 2014

They marched to the Statue of St Volodymyr, the ruler who brought Christianity to the Ukraine in 988

which has been used as a shrine to those who have been killed in the Ukrainian uprising

A woman brings photographs of those killed, others light candles

 and more candles

The statue was erected in 1988 to mark 1000 years since St Volodymyr imposed Orthodox Christianity as the
religion for Ukraine (He rejected Islam saying "Drinking is the joy of all Rus'. We cannot exist without that pleasure").

'Ukraine is Not Russia', 'Putin! Hands off Ukraine'. The crowd in front of the statue

A man in the crowd held two candles

At the front, women held the Ukrainian flag

The service began

The Orthodox cross with its 3 crossbeams

The service took place under the statue of St Volodymyr.
