City Inter-Livery Pancake Race

Guildhall Yard, London. Tue 25 Feb 2020

Some had come ready for the fancy dress races

but others were a little more normally dressed

Races have to be run in proper dress, and with a specially provided hat, which needs to be firmly fixed

Hull Cartridge is the oldest cartridge maker in Hull - I made the mistake of confusing it with a more recent company

The starting gun is a small cannon and makes a very big bang for the first race

 Announcements are made

 and everyone listens carefully

This man was later declared the winner of the fancy dress competition

The contestants have to toss the pancake going down the yard and on the way back - and have to keep their hats on

Some of the racers look very determined

Time for the fancy dress competition and the pilot picks up her plane

and gets aboard to go to the starting line

 The contestants line up

and are very slowly interviewed and judged. They are supposed to have some connection with this year's Lord Mayor's Charity

After the judging they come back off the yard

She wasn't one of the winners but was given a special mention

There were a few more races left, but I decided it was time to leave and find a nearby pub.
