'Women Rise Up For Afrin'
An orange flare is set off as the march begins
'The Martyrs Are Immortal' banner with eight portraits of people killed
after going out to join the YPG/YPJ
More flares at Oxford Circus
and people get out PKK flags
A police officer talks to people holding PKK flags
Police made an attempt to snatch people holding PKK flags but were
prevented by the crowd. Police reinforcements
arrived and watched the march in two large groups
Mark Campbell tells the police they should not be hounding the Kurds
who are leading the fight against ISIS
The UK government has always supported Turkey, a fellow NATO member,
agains the Kurds and proscribed
the PKK in 2001. Britain has ignored the long campaign of repression
against the Kurds by the Turkish government
The police stood in a large group and watched the march as he spoke.
They didn't attack the march again, and
I think the people who had carried the PKK flags had disappeared.
Eventually the march moved on from Piccadilly Circus
and marched towards Trafalgar Square
where some posed for photographs
and then there was some music and dancing. I took a few pictures, but there
was too much rain on my lenses
for them to be worth posting.
