100 Years of International Women's Day

London, Tuesday 8 March 2011

It could have been doves or seagulls that I saw from across the river flying up from the bridge

Certainly most people on the bridge people didn't release their balloons until later

People were well spread out across the bridge, and the march didn't stop long enough for it to fill up

Some men marched alongside the women on the march

Balloons were released in small numbers over around ten minutes, failing to make much of an impact

People were still waiting to get on to the bridge while the leading group had already gone down from the other side

and of course there were children

including quite a few school groups

The International Planned Parenthood Federation was one of many groups taking part
