CUMBRIAN INTERLUDE: Cumbrian Coast

Allonby, Cumbria. August 2010

Wind farm in the Solway Firth - close to the Scottish shore

Main street at Allonby runs parallel with the shore, with bridges across Allonby Beck to a green

The road at the centre of the village is confusingly called 'The Square.'

The village was largely owned by Quakers who disapproved of the showiness of this Congregational chapel!

Washing line on the green by the Solway at Allonby

several bridges cross the beck to join the green to the village

Allonby Grange is opposite the baths.

The Baths were built to let people bathe in seawater without having to go into the sea

The date on the stone above the doorway is 1677 though the house looks more recent.
