The Journey: to Iona

Aug 9 , 2008

We couldn't see a great deal from the bus on the way from Glasgow as it was pouring with rain, the bus stopped for 10 mins at Inverary, but the rain didn't.

The rain had slackened slightly as our ferry from Oban came into Craignure

From the bus window, looking back towards the ferry. Some unlucky passengers got stranded in Craignure as the bus was full and the company decided not to run a relief bus as there were only around nine or ten. They had to wait for the later bus, 5 hours later.

It took almost a couple of hours on the bus to reach Fionnphort . The ferry is just visible at the jetty across the Sound of Iona

And it wasn't long before it was coming across to pick us up

Carraig Bheig from the ferry. Built as the Free Church of Scotland after the 'Disruption' of 1843, now a private house. Isabel Grant founded the Highland Folk Museum as "Am Fasgadh" (The Shelter) here in 1935, but by 1939 it was too small. The museum moved to Laggan and in 1944 found its permanent home in KIngussie in the Cairngorms National Park.
