The Right to Protest

Parliament Square, Westminster, Sunday 7 August, 2005

A protestor arrested for holding up a small banner in Parliament Square is taken away by police.

Police warn protestors holding a 'Defend Right to Protest' banner that they are committing an offence and will be arrested.

Protestors argue that protest is a human right and cannot be restricted by law in a free society.

Another protestor is led away by police, wearing a banner 'Protest by Right Not Police Permission'.

Brian Haw denounces the police action, reminding them of Condoleezza Rice's Boston speech about a fear society

He has to shout to make himself heard as no microphones or megaphones are now allowed.

A protestor makes a V for Victory sign as she is led away by police near the statue of Churchill (not in picture.)

Police arrest the fifth demonstrator amid cries of shame from all those around.
